BENEATH THIS MARBLE
rests in peaceful hope
the body of
JOHN LUCAS
a disciple of the blessed Jesus
He was born in Surry County Virginia
January 11th 1765
Emigrated to Georgia in 1796
Joined the Methodist Church in Oct 1802
and left this world October 1st 1831
in full assurance of possessing
a mansion in the house
not made with hands.
His faith rested entirely on the promises
and atonement of a dying, risen and
interceding Jesus and produced in him
its uniform fruits, holiness of life,
peace of soul and joy in the holy ghost
and ultimately
a death full of immortal hope.
--------------
Servant of God well done
   Rest from thy loved employ
The battle fought, the victory won.
   Enter thy Master's joy
The pains of death are past.
   Labour and sorrow cease.
And life's long warfare closed at last,
His soul is found in peace.
Soldier of Christ well done
   Begin thy new employ.
Sing while eternal ages run,
   Thy master and his joy.
