Practiced law from 1932 to 1939; lumber manufacturer, 1939-48. Senator, 20th Dist., 1939, 1945-1945 Ex.-46; 1951-1952. Member, house of rep., Hancock Co., 1941; 1943-43 Ex.-44; 1953-1954; 1955-56 (elected as Speaker of House of Reps, 1955-1956 session).

Married Dec. 27, 1942 in Cedartown, Polk Co., Ga., Margaret Carroll (b. Jan 31, 1915 in Floyd Co.), d/o William W. Carroll (b. Jan 21, 1891 d. Apr 16, 1924 in Walker Co.) and Eva (Agnew) Carroll (b. May 10, 1891 inWalker Co.). Children: Marvin E. Jr., (b. May 28, 1944) and Linda Carroll (b. Nov 19, 1945). Marvin E. Moate is the son of Robert H. Moate (b. Feb 13, 1872, m. Dec 15, 1901, d. Feb 18, 1946 in Hancock Co.) and Eula (Smith) Moate (b. April 26, 1882 in Hancock Co.) and the grandson of Ransom Moate (b. Feb 15, 1847, m. Apr 2, 1867, d.
