Major C. W. Gause (obituary from Union Recorder, Oct 21, 1884)
Major C. W. Gause departed this life suddenly at his residence, corner of Formwalt and Fair streets, in this city, on Sunday night, the 12th of this month, in the sixty-first year of his age. Major Gause was a genial man, of great kindness of heart, and made friends wherever he went. During the present year he was converted, and attached himself to Trinity church in this city. On Sabbath he attended religious service at the church to which he belonged, both in the forenoon and at night, and returned to his home apparently in good health. About midnight he complained of a pain in his head. The family were aroused, physicians sent for, and every effort made to relieve him, but in a very short time, not exceeding an hour, he was dead. Major Gause was a kind and affectionate husband and father, most devotedly and tenderly attached to his wife and children. He was also a kind neighbor and sincere friend. He leaves a most amiable and excellent wife and five children to mourn his sudden death, and in their bereavement his family have the profound sympathy of a multitude of friends and acquaintances, who knew and appreciated Major Gause in his life-time. May He "Who tempereth the wind to the shorn lamb" minister to this stricken family, and give them the consolations of His grace, and enable them to realize that "Earth hath no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal."
