Sarah Woolworth Case

Sarah Woolworth Case – born at Westfield, Massachusetts and died July 27, 1897

From partway through her obituary, Union Recorder, Aug. 3, 1897, p. 3:
"Mrs. Case was born in Westfield, Mass., in 1820. She came to Milledgeville about 1840, in the bloom of a beautiful and cultured young womanhood, to visit her sister Miss Anna Woolworth, who came South for the benefit of the climate, and was engaged in teaching at Midway. Here she met Dr. George D. Case, also from the North, who after graduating from the Medical College at Albany, NY, his native state, came South to practice his profession and located in this city, then the capital of Georgia, in 1836. The meeting soon resulted in a happy marriage (married August 1, 1838 per family records).

"Dr. Case became a leading physician of this city and occupied a high position on the state medical board. In all matters looking to the welfare of his adopted city he was a leading and conspicuous figure. He died about twenty years ago, leaving a widow and two sons -- George D. and Charles L. Case. The youngest son, Charles L. died about two years ago.

"A devoted wife, a loving mother, useful and helpful in society and church, always kind and gentle and charitable, Mrs. Case, sustained by the christian's unfailing trust, passed away from earth beloved by all who knew her."
